In today’s ever changing fashion industry it’s not enough to look fabulous, women and young girls are looking for something unique and personalized. A fashion statement they can make to express their own style and even be a part of the design process. Sometimes, fashion can even help a little girl forget about her severe asthma issues and medications just long enough to enjoy beautiful new purses in her new Purse Theme Room! 

 

Joann Godwin, owner and designer of Endless Purse-abilities, knows first hand when it comes to purses and handbags, females can be very particular in what they want. “I have always loved fabulous fabrics with their unique patterns and textures.” Out of a quest for expressing my own uniqueness and style, I started designing purses and totes for me and my daughter. I found that after working for years in a hospital as a Nutritionist and traveling as a Medical Sales Representative I needed to spend more time at home. I also needed a creative outlet that could keep me challenged and motivated. That’s when my love of fabrics and fashion accessories all came together and Endless Purse-abilities was born. The name itself expresses the creativity and uniqueness that I strive to convey in my designs. The purse styles, fabrics and options are endless! Thus, the opening statement on my website says, “Your handbag or purse will be made by hand to express your individual style and ‘purse-onality’. You can choose a purse design of your own or I can help you create your own unique purse from our extensive group of designer fabrics. I love to experiment with different fabrics and prints using lots of polka dots, stripes and unique shapes. Each purse or tote is designed with fun and function in mind. Being on the world-wide web has made my small business global. I work hard to meet the growing demands of customers throughout the USA and Europe. Knowing that my clients are happy with their creative purchase keeps me focused and motivated.

 

A recent request to design purses for a “Purse Theme Room” for “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” was a surprise and a dream come true. I was so excited and honored to be a part of such a fantastic show and cause. It has always been emotional to see the featured family’s story and the design team’s effect on their lives. I often think, wow!, that must be so rewarding to touch so many families in such a positive way, all the while doing what they love. Then came the unbelievable opportunity to be a part of making a local family’s dreams come true. When I heard about the little girl's health issues and her passion for purses, I couldn’t say no. Each purse and tote was designed specifically for Laila King's room in some variation of her favorite colors—pink and purple. I wanted them to be totally unique and personable. When she walks into her special room, I want her to know it’s all about her! I created purses and totes of all shapes, sizes, and colors. I used lots of cute fabrics and ribbons to make them really girly. Then to make them really come to life I monogrammed most of them with a variation of the girl’s name and initials.

Just thinking of her surprise and excitement to see a room full of purses just for her made the time and effort so worthwhile! Being on the set with the Design Team really brought it to life for me. Everyone really worked so hard for the King family. After all of the priming, painting, primping, arranging and finishing touches were made in Laila’s “Purse Room” it was truly spectacular. I am grateful and honored to have been part of such a great experience while making a little girl’s dream room a reality.
